You look like a monkey and you smell like one too…

It seems like we have only been here a few months, but each of us has already celebrated a birthday!

Dylan’s 4th birthday party was at Joyland in the mall. Joyland is cool. It has an indoor play structure, bowling, pool, two floors of arcade and Chuck E. Cheese-type games and rides. Dylan received a Captain America costume as an early present and decided to wear it to the party. The kids had a great time while the grownups chatted over çay (tea).

Ella had a crafting party at home with a handful of girlfriends. They made purses, necklaces, and more. Though she is our March Madness baby, El surprised us by wanting a basketball cake. I surprised us by pulling it off.  It was a lot of fun and Ella enjoyed it.

Next came Kevin. Kevin celebrated his almost 40th with friends at a bar. It was a really good time because of the great group of people who came out, not to mention the vast amounts of alcohol consumed. The Elvis band was a particular highlight. They tried Dead or Alive for the birthday boy, but couldn’t make it past the chorus, so we danced the Twist to Jailhouse Rock instead.

Last, but not least, I had my birthday while we were on vacation. Everyone was having such a fun time, they forgot. Until I reminded them at the end of the day and demanded desserts (and jewelry from the artisan who made the jewelry for the movie Troy).  We celebrated properly when we got home.  I went out with the girls and Kevin made me my Grandmother Momette’s Strawberry Shortcake- my favorite!

Thank you all for your gifts and well wishes during this time. It made us feel closer to home!  To see all of the celebrations, click here.
